Line Series Furniture: A Blend of Art and Functionality

Wei Jingye and Wu Wenhao's Award-Winning Design Inspired by Abstract Linear Constructivism

The design inspiration for this series is based on pure art line painting. The designers selected metal wire as the production material, which was then polished to make it more suitable for the human sitting posture and more comfortable to use. The steel pipe finally meets the wooden part through the connector, creating a harmonious blend of materials.

Line series furniture consists of a line chair, line table, and line lamp. Each piece of furniture is assembled using the same metal wire bending, welding, and other technological means. This approach not only creates a visually cohesive collection but also showcases the designers' commitment to exploring linear composition laws in pure art and applying them to furniture design.

The material is mainly made of metal wire, which is used in combination with wood. This choice of materials is not only environmentally friendly but also suitable for bending processing. The product manufacturing process consists of blanking, bending, firing, stretching, springback, welding, polishing, etc. The processing mode is relatively simple, with no special technical requirements, and a high degree of freedom of modeling.

One of the unique features of this design is its multi-functionality. The line table, for instance, can be used to store articles and solve the problem of office wire. The line lamp can also be used to place books, adding an extra layer of functionality to the design. The product material is 304 white steel, which is hard and corrosion-resistant, ensuring the product's longevity.

The design project started in Shenyang in March 2022 and was completed in Shenyang in June 2022. It was displayed in the museum of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang in June 2022. The designers faced challenges in exploring the beauty of linear elements in space and ensuring the comfort and functionality of the product using only one element. However, they successfully overcame these challenges, resulting in a design that is not only beautiful but also functional.

Line Series Furniture is a testament to Wei Jingye and Wu Wenhao's innovative approach to design. It showcases their ability to blend art and functionality, resulting in a design that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical. This design has rightfully earned them the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2023, a testament to their outstanding expertise and innovation.
